SUMMARY:National Health Center Week (NHCW)
DESCRIPTION:Every August\, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) sponsors National Health Center Week (NHCW) to celebrate and increase awareness of America’s 1\,512 Community Health Centers (CHCs). NHCW is an opportunity to highlight the commitment and passion of CHC patients\, staff\, board members\, and supporters who make it possible to provide quality\, comprehensive healthcare services to 52 million*1 patients across more than 17\,000 communities. \nNHCW 2026 Theme: Building Innovative Care Where It Matters Most \nThis year’s theme celebrates how CHCs use creativity and commitment to advance innovative solutions that meet patients where they are and improve primary care delivery\, access\, and outcomes nationwide. This includes partnering with key stakeholders and elected officials to strengthen relationships that support high-quality\, patient-centered care in the communities they serve. \n\n\nEach day of National Health Center Week is dedicated to a particular focus area:\n\nSunday\, August 2: Theme Day\nMonday\, August 3: Staff Appreciation Day\nTuesday\, August 4: Patient Appreciation Day\nWednesday\, August 5: Health Conditions Focus\nThursday\, August 6: Populations Day\nFriday\, August 7: Partner Appreciation Day\nSaturday\, August 8: Gratitude and Future Vision\n\nAligning NHCW celebrations and local activities with these focus areas helps amplify the national impact of the collective CHC message. Focus days are suggested as a flexible guide — activities don’t have to happen on these exact dates. \n\nWeitzman Institute\, 2025 ↩︎

SUMMARY:2026 Quality Improvement Summit
DESCRIPTION:Since 2018\, the Institute for High Quality Care (IHQC)\, in partnership with the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County (CCALAC)\, has hosted an annual Quality Improvement Summit. This one-day conference is a unique learning event for community clinics\, public healthcare delivery systems\, and other organizations in the safety net to build their knowledge base in quality and process improvement and to make vital connections with each other. \nIn light of the environmental shifts necessary for COVID-19\, IHQC and CCALAC created the QI Summit Series in August 2020\, a series of interactive webinars featuring topics relevant to safety net healthcare during a time of tremendous change. The Summit Series then continued in August 2021\, featuring a variety of panelists from safety net clinics and delivery systems\, subject matter experts\, and representatives from health plans. In August 2022\, taking into account feedback from attendees of the Summit Series\, IHQC and CCALAC hosted the 2022 QI Summit as a single-day virtual conference\, with new networking technology and a packed schedule of panelists. We have since returned to an in-person format and are happy to announce the 2026 QI Summit\, taking place on September 18\, 2026 in Long Beach\, CA! \n

SUMMARY:Coffee Connections
DESCRIPTION:Shaping the Future of Aging & Cognitive Health: Aligning Care\, Community\, and Partnerships \nThis Coffee Connections session will bring together health systems\, community-based organizations\, and academic partners to explore what caring for our aging population looks like in Orange County. \nWhile aging is a broad and complex topic\, this conversation will focus more specifically on cognitive and brain health\, prevention\, and continuity of care—key areas that shape how older adults remain healthy\, independent\, and supported in their communities. \nParticipants will explore what aging in place requires in practice\, including access to local resources \, affordability\, and coordinated systems of support. The conversation will lift up what is working locally\, where gaps remain\, and how to strengthen collaboration across sectors to better support older adults without working in silos. \nThe session will also explore how community and social systems can better support individuals and families in taking action earlier and more effectively\, and will create space for cross-sector and intergenerational perspectives on how we support aging well in our community. Lastly\, the session will touch on the role of research- particularly the importance of including diverse populations in research and ensuring that insights are translated into real-world practice to improve care and outcomes. \nParticipants will leave with practical ideas\, local insights\, and opportunities for connection to support ongoing work across Orange County.

SUMMARY:Training 3 – Media 101: Navigating the Unexpected During an Interview
DESCRIPTION:Amplifying the community health center movement and the issues that impact our work through news media requires a strong relationship between health centers and reporters. Most journalists have honest intentions and are invested in maintaining positive relationships with the people they interview. Regardless\, spokespeople must be prepared in case an interview veers off course to navigate difficult or sometimes hostile questions (this rarely happens!). In this session\, attendees will learn how to pivot\, bridge\, and redirect conversations during an interview while staying calm\, professional\, and focused on their key messages. \nLearning objectives \n\nKnow how to respond to negative\, or even hostile\, questions\nKnow how to redirect responses back to your key messages\nKnow how to refocus an interview if the interviewer tries to steer towards an unrelated direction\n\nPresented by Jay Geer\, President\, Miller Geer & Associates\, and James Chisum\, Vice President\, Miller Geer & Associates.

SUMMARY:Training 4 – Spokesperson as Advocate: Leveraging Speaking Skills for Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:Amid deep funding cuts and harmful policy changes\, advocacy for community health centers isn’t optional; it’s a must. Media is one of many forums to advocate for clinics and patients. Whether speaking to elected officials and policymakers\, hosting a community townhall\, or leading an internal conversation with the board of directors or the staff\, every opportunity requires a key skill: storytelling. In this session\, attendees will build upon the skills presented in the first three trainings and learn how to leverage the power of storytelling in their advocacy. \nLearning objectives \n\nApply lessons learned to effectively advocate for policy priorities\nLeverage storytelling to demonstrate the value community health centers bring to their communities and the impact of policies on patient care\nCommunicate with empathy while maintaining act-based approach\nEngage strategically by using personal stories and patient experiences\n\nPresented by Jay Geer\, President\, Miller Geer & Associates\, and James Chisum\, Vice President\, Miller Geer & Associates.
